Start with your China sourcing question

Inside China Works is organised around the sourcing task in front of you. Choose the stage you are working on now, use the relevant guide or checklist, and record what still needs to be confirmed.

1. Preparing to contact suppliers

Questions to handle

  • What type of product arrangement am I asking for?
  • What information should I prepare before requesting a quotation?
  • Which decisions must I make, and which can the supplier propose?
  • How might variants, packaging and customisation affect MOQ?

2. Requesting quotations

Questions to handle

  • Are all suppliers quoting against the same requirements?
  • What does the unit price include?
  • Have sample, packaging, logo, tooling and document costs been separated?
  • Which questions have not been answered?

3. Comparing supplier offers

Questions to handle

  • Are the quoted products actually comparable?
  • Are packaging, accessories and market versions the same?
  • Which figures are confirmed and which are still assumptions?
  • What sits outside the quoted unit price?

4. Reviewing and changing samples

Questions to handle

  • What exactly was received?
  • How does the sample differ from the quotation or requirement?
  • Which changes have been requested?
  • Will the changes affect price, lead time, packaging or documents?

5. Preparing a first order

Questions to handle

  • Which company is quoting, contracting and receiving payment?
  • Does the document appear to cover the quoted model?
  • Which specifications and packaging details have been confirmed?
  • What remains unresolved before payment?

6. Production, reorders and product changes

Questions to handle

  • Which approved details must carry forward into production?
  • Has the supplier changed a component, material or packaging detail?
  • Does a change affect the sample, document or test basis?
  • What must be checked again before a reorder?

When a public guide is not enough

If your question involves a specific supplier, quotation, RFQ, sample record or document, Research Services can organise the available information, identify missing items and define what still needs to be confirmed.
