The choice should therefore begin with the target use rather than the catalogue category.

Start with the use case

Before comparing models, define what the target user needs the product to do.

The most useful questions are:

  • Is uninterrupted basket width important?
  • Are trays or oven-style accessories part of the product position?

How the main formats differ

Single-basket models

A single-basket air fryer provides one continuous cooking space.

Its advantages may include:

  • fewer removable parts;

  • easier product explanation.

This format may suit a product intended for one main food load or a relatively simple user experience.

However, a large litre figure does not guarantee a wide usable surface. A deep, narrow basket may hold a similar nominal volume to a wider design while fitting a different food load.

Single-basket models may be less suitable where users frequently want to cook two foods under separate settings.

Dual-basket models

A dual-basket product uses two separate baskets or drawers.

Depending on the model, it may support:

  • different time and temperature settings;
  • synchronised completion;
  • matching settings across both baskets;

Combined capacity needs careful interpretation. A 9-litre product may contain two 4.5-litre baskets, neither of which can accommodate one large reference item.

Divided single-chamber models

Some products use one wider chamber with a removable or fixed divider.

This arrangement can offer more flexibility because the chamber may accept one larger food load when a removable divider is taken out. Even so, it should not automatically be treated as equivalent to two independent baskets.

The buyer needs to understand:

  • whether the divider creates independently controlled zones;
  • how airflow, moisture and food residue move between the two sides;
  • whether the full chamber can be used as one space;
  • how time, temperature and heating are controlled;
  • whether liquids and food residue can pass between the two sides;
  • how the divider affects cleaning.

The product description should explain the actual construction rather than rely only on the term “dual zone.”

Air fryer ovens

An air fryer oven uses a chamber with trays, shelves or other accessories.

Depending on the model, this may support:

  • larger or differently shaped food loads;
  • several shelf positions;
  • oven-style visibility;
  • additional accessories or functions.

However, cavity size does not show how much of the chamber can be used effectively.

Shelf positions, heating elements, fan guards, door construction and spacing between trays all affect practical use.

Useful questions include:

  • How many trays are supplied?
  • How many levels can be used at the same time?
  • Does performance change with multiple trays?
  • Do trays need to be moved or rotated?
  • How are grease and crumbs collected?
  • Which areas need manual cleaning?

An oven-style model may provide more visible space, while also requiring more user explanation, packaging protection and cleaning effort.

Compare space and food-load fit

Category labels do not determine practical capacity.

The comparison should show whether the product provides:

  • one uninterrupted cooking area;
  • two separate baskets;
  • a chamber divided into two zones;
  • a chamber with several tray positions.

The buyer still needs a defined reference food or portion. Without one, “large capacity” remains too general to guide the choice.

The control system becomes more complex as the product adds independent zones or accessory-based functions.

A single-basket model commonly uses:

  • one time setting;
  • one temperature setting;
  • one cooking sequence.

A dual-basket product may add:

  • basket selection;
  • independent settings;

The purpose is not to maximise the number of functions. It is to ensure that the control logic matches the product position and target user.

For dual-basket and divided-chamber products, catalogue language may emphasise that two foods can cook at the same time. The practical result depends on how the model behaves when both sides operate.

Model-specific supplier information and sample work should clarify:

  • whether both sides can use different settings simultaneously;
  • how long each side takes under a combined load;
  • whether one side affects the performance of the other;
  • how synchronised completion works;
  • whether operating limits apply to certain programmes.

A larger chamber is useful only when airflow and heating remain suitable for the intended tray arrangement.

Cleaning becomes part of the product decision

Cleaning affects product reviews, repeat use and after-sales complaints.

Relevant differences include:

  • number of removable parts;
  • basket, tray and divider geometry;
  • crisper plates;
  • drip trays;
  • accessible grease areas;
  • coating system;
  • dishwasher claims, where made;
  • replacement-part availability.

A dual-basket product usually creates more removable pieces. An oven product may introduce racks, corners and internal surfaces that require manual cleaning.

Nevertheless, structure alone does not determine cleaning difficulty. The actual geometry, coating and access matter more than the category name.

The format also changes packaging and freight

A structure that works well for the user may still create a more expensive packaging profile.

Dual-basket products can be wider than comparable single-basket models. Oven-style models may be taller and may need additional protection around trays, doors or glass.

Record:

  • product dimensions;
  • product weight;
  • gift-box dimensions;
  • gross weight;
  • master-carton quantity;
  • master-carton dimensions;
  • loading assumptions.

These fields affect:

  • countertop fit;
  • retail shelf space;
  • pallet arrangement;
  • container loading;
  • e-commerce dimensional weight;
  • transit protection.

A small unit-price difference can become less important once packaging and freight are included.

Accessories and support requirements

Accessory packages vary substantially between formats.

They may include:

  • crisper plates;
  • racks;
  • trays;
  • skewers;
  • dividers;
  • rotisserie parts;
  • liners;
  • recipe materials.

The quotation should distinguish standard and optional items. It should also identify accessory materials, packaging arrangement and replacement availability.

More accessories may broaden the product’s intended uses or support a higher feature position. They also create more parts to specify, pack, inspect and support after sale.

A practical comparison sequence

The formats become easier to compare when the buyer works in this order:

  1. define the reference food and portion;
  2. decide whether independent zones are required;
  3. compare continuous space, basket size, divided-zone behaviour or tray layout;
  4. review control behaviour and simultaneous cooking;
  5. assess cleaning and removable parts;
  6. record included accessories;
  7. compare product and packaging dimensions;
  8. test the intended food load;
  9. align the quotation scope;
  10. compare commercial terms.
